In its updated September 2025 report, “Medical Device Manufacturing in Mexico [updated 2025]” highlights that Mexico has become a major global player in medical-device manufacturing: ranking seventh worldwide among device exporters and leading in Latin America.
The report outlines how the country has developed several specialized clusters—for instance in Baja California/Sonora, Chihuahua, Jalisco and Nuevo León—that concentrate manufacture, R&D, assembly and exports of advanced medical devices. In Baja California and Sonora, close to the U.S. border, the industry benefits from near-shoring: competitive costs, skilled workforce and logistical proximity. In Guadalajara (Jalisco) the locale is emerging as the “Silicon Valley of Mexico” for electronic and high-tech medical devices.
The range of devices manufactured in Mexico is broad: from consumables like syringes, sutures and needles, to diagnostic equipment, prosthetics and even robotic-assisted systems. Mexico is documented as a world-leader in production of syringes, sutures and needles.
From a business-perspective, global manufacturers identify Mexico’s advantages: production cost ~25% below U.S. and ~6% below China for certain lines, and a domestic manufacturing base that functions as a regional export platform beyond just the U.S. market.
